Who this guide is for Payroll and finance staff responsible for Trinidad and Tobago statutory remittances, returns, and year-end payroll reporting.
Prepare before filing 1. Confirm all payroll runs for the filing period are executed, approved, and reconciled. Tie gross pay, PAYE, NIS, Health Surcharge, employer contributions, and payment totals to the payroll register. 2. Identify off-cycle runs, reversals, corrections, retroactive changes, leavers, and benefit adjustments. Explain their treatment in the filing workpaper. 3. Confirm employer tax and contribution account information, filing period, payment date, preparer, reviewer, and official submission channel using current Inland Revenue Division and National Insurance Board guidance.
Prepare and submit 1. Use Eprecus payroll registers and statutory reports as the controlled source for each remittance or return. 2. Reconcile every reported amount to payroll run identifiers. The reviewer should verify employer identity, period, totals, payment reference, and correction treatment. 3. Submit required payments and returns through the current official authority process by the applicable deadline. Eprecus supports the payroll record and reporting workpaper; it does not replace the official submission channel. 4. Store the accepted return, authority receipt, payment confirmation, statutory report, payroll register, reviewer sign-off, and any rejection or amendment notice together.
Year-end and corrections Reconcile year-to-date wages, PAYE, NIS, Health Surcharge, and other payroll liabilities before producing annual employee certificates and employer reporting, including TD4 or other current official documentation that applies. Correct source payroll through Eprecus first, then follow the official amended-return process and retain the complete before-and-after evidence.
Control checklist Do not file from a draft payroll. Do not overwrite a statutory amount to make a payment agree. Do not ignore a rejected return. Escalate late payments, notices, rejected submissions, amended returns, or unexplained differences to the payroll owner and a qualified Trinidad and Tobago payroll or tax adviser.
